HOWTO: Multiple Retroshare's on the same Computer.

You can run multiple Retroshare's on the same computer (same OS). This is very useful for testing and developing Retroshare.

To do this you need two separate Retroshare configuration directories, and use the commandline options. This is demonstrated in a Linux context, but the same thing can be done on Windows / Macs.

Client 1:

(1) Create a configuration directory.

$ mkdir -p rs_configs/client1
$ cd rs_configs/client1

(2) Run retroshare specifying this configuration directory.

$ retroshare -c .

(3) Change the default port (so it doesn't clash with Client 2)

Menu "Options" -> "Network", then change:

  • local port => 9812
  • external port => 9812

(or whatever number you want!)

(4) Restart Retroshare

So that it uses the new port number!.

Client 2:

(1) Create a configuration directory.

$ mkdir -p rs_configs/client2
$ cd rs_configs/client2

(2) Run retroshare specifying this configuration directory.

$ retroshare -c .

Connecting

(1) Exchange Certificates between clients.

(2) They should connect shortly.
