GUI improvement?

Postby stefan.apenheimer » Thu Feb 09, 2012 2:45 am

Hey guys, I just created a kind of alternative GUI on Photoshop. Yes you got it right, on Photoshop. Unfortunately my qt-skills are non-existant and as a graphics-designer, i know at least how to use Photoshop ;) I tried to focus more on user-friendlyness and some better optics. because it is just a concept, it isnt finished yet, but it could be an idea to improve the GUI ...

What do you think of it? Do you think its worth to be implemented in the project? Do you have any suggesttions, or ideas?

regards, Stefan

I would also like to have new designs. Actually the left bar is not very intuitive for new users (small icons without text).

Your Mockup looks nice. Maybe themeing could be implemented?

We would love to have a cool looking GUI like this one. But the current dev team has no time to start a new GUI from scratch. If new developers want to have a try producing such a GUI, that would be super cool, but it's a *lot* of work.

I know that it will be a *lot* of work, but I think that a better GUI will also increase the number of users. Some friends of mine dont use RS, because they had great difficulties with using the GUI. Of course, once you learned how to use it, you will find a way to use it, but a better gui also gives people who have no time or skills to learn it the chance to use it.

As I already mentioned, I dont know how to use qt, but I read that qt supports CSS 2.1. If someone with qt-skills can help me with the GUI, I could at least contribute the graphics and the CSS-Code. Most of the GUI-forms I saw in the source-code can be used for this, its just a kind of 'rearrangement' and improvement of the old GUI.

If anyone who knows how to use qt has interest in developping an improved GUI, just write me :)

Thanks Stefan. Totally lovin' your new Graphics.

RS should be more similar to used programs like Skype (or Instant Messengers in general). Most of the people know how to use them.

I love this concept! It looks more like a web interface, which is good because I would MUCH rather use a web interface in my browser to control RetroShare running on my home server.

Awesome mockup.
I have very little qt-skill. Whenever I have time to look at retroshare sources and understand how it works, I'll try to help !
