Why isn´t RS successful?

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

I agree one thing that secure voice is good for fast keyboardless communication but no video because RS would need much more dependencies and becomes more heavyweight. Use Skype for video.

We all should try to advertise RS more!

tell your friends about it on social networks and all that. Use it and your friends will follow!
Be the change you want to see in the world!

The developers do a great job and RS is working quite well at the moment.
Look at Poland and check out the anti ACTA movelent.

I predict RS a vivid future if we are able to explain more what its benefits are.
If it is stable buit and the encryption is well implemented wich I can not judge since I have no coding skills it might be the only way to keep your privacy when ACTA/ /SOPA//PIPA or whatnot will be signed worldwide.

Ofcause right now all centralized services have the HUGE benefit for the users can send messages and files beeing stored and delivered even beeing offline.
But in the near future (I hope not soooo near though) RS might be the only method that I know of untill now that does what RS does send encryped messages not via a centralized server to peers and give the possibility to share content...
So it is leading right now and it can be very lonley on the top :)

Its like Disapora in social networks is a great alternative to facebook but not widely used yet because people are where their friends arte at.

Well,

i think RS might need a kind of mascot (maybe an animal, or something like that). A new name could also increase its popularity.

I share Stefan's opinion too.
Surely I understand that the developers doesn't want to change the name, but there should be a discussion about that.

The name is not everything, but the words "Retro" and "Share" are not very positive. Don't missunderstand me: I love this program and I see the potentials!

RetroShare is and will be so much more than just sharing files. Maybe we could start a poll and topic with suggestions.

Another thing is that during the installation, there shouldnt start a second installation for the Key. All in one with less clicks would be perfect.

FileSharing is not very positive since the media talks only about pirating stuff ;)
