RetroShare seems to quit after login

Postby vintage » Mon Feb 27, 2012 3:55 pm

Hi there,

I just downloaded RetroShare.

I had alread GnuPgp.

On starting RetroShare I get a login-window and on pressing login, I'm asked for the GNUpgp-passphrase.

Having it entered the window closes and RetroShare is no longer there (in the MAC activity app I cannot see it as well)

Did I do something wrong?

Thanks in advance for advice

I had the same problem and actually solved it by making a new profile and location through RetroShare using a Tormail.net account. Now I'm not sure if the Tormail account was what made it work or if I did something different during the profile creation without realizing it. Try to make a new one from the RetroShare start window by clicking on the "manage profiles and locations" link below the login. Hope this helps.

This is windows? RS works with a quite old gpg4win version. Please try the portable RS version which has the correct gpg4win installed within the RS directory.

No, this is on a Mac. I also have the same problem. Tried reinstalling retroshare, created new profile, still nothing. I click login and the app closes. No crash messages displayed to the user. (Running 10.7 latest and latest MacGPG release)

You have to fully trust your key first in gpg. Then login will work.

I set ownertrust to ultimate and signed the key, still nothing. How do I "fully trust" the key?

Revised Final August 27 2012

I think I may have stumbled upon the solution to why Retroshare is crashing after start-up..

If you are generating your GPG keys through MacGPG make your key size either 1024 or 2048 and use the Algorithm DSA and Elgamal or RSA (sign only).

*The default RSA and RSA Algorithm will cause Retroshare to crash when attempting to log in when generating your keys through MacGPG. The Algorithm DSA (sign only) will produce the error (Failed to load your new certificate)*

MacGPG used the RSA and RAS Algorithm by default but you can chose DSA and Elgamal or RSA (sign only) when generating your keys.

Follow the same instructions as above if you are using GnuPG 1.4.9 that ships with the RetroShare.dmg

If you use Retroshare to generate your GPG keys the default Algorithm is RSA (sign only) and the size Key size will be 2048.

If you need instructions about how to set up and use MacGPG or GnuPG please ask. I'm happy to oblige.

Hope this helps..

If you Generate the key it is fully trusted.. Ultimate is Ultimate trust hence Full trust.. If you set the owner trust to Ultimate the same applies.. Full trust.
