Multiple user filesharing on Retroshare?

Postby [dx] » Thu Apr 22, 2010 10:21 am

Hi, this is my first post here and though I have searched for a topic like this one, I haven't found one. I appologise if I didn't search enough.

I have read in section 1-4 of the FAQ that:

Remember that a RetroShare connection allows direct secure communication only between the two peers/friends, and no one else.

I want to set up a small network with my IRL friends (6-10 pax tops).
Lets say I release a file which I want to share with friend A, friend B and friend C.

If friend A and friend B start downloading it from me, once they have a few Megabytes of the file, can they share it among themselves to increase the file transfer?
Or if friend A starts downloading it, can friend B start downloading it from him and then can friend C do the same with friend B? (Waterfall system in order to spread a file quickly using all the upload bandwith we have).

To sum it up: Is retroshare's sharing system like Kazaa (one to one file sharing) or like eMule/Bittorent?
If it's like one to one, is there a project of developping a multi share system in order to boost the speed?

Thanks in advance! :)

yes RetroShare 0.5.0 does do that - ie. friend "a" has the original file, friend "b" and "c" both download it. then friend "a" goes offline -friend "b" and "c" would share the part of the file they have with each other. also if friend "a" and "b" both had the same file then friend "c" would receive it from both of them.
