RS connection is slow with symmetric NAT

Postby cristeab » Wed May 28, 2014 6:04 am

Hi
I have tested RS on the Internet, but the connection time is about 20 min when both clients are behind NAT. Is there a way to speed up the connection time ? Does RS cope well with the situation when at least one client has a public IP or there is a third client in the network with a public IP that allows faster connection of the other two clients, both behind NAT ?
thanks
Bogdan

Open Retroshare’s port on your router if you want the connection to be faster, either manually or with upnp (upnp is enabled by default in RS but it must also be enabled on your router).
20 minutes isn’t surprising if you are both unreachable, I think it’s the time needed to find a third Retroshare user in the DHT that is reachable and can act as a middle man to establish the connection. The devs were talking about it yesterday and thinking about ways to make it faster, actually…
