Friend Finding is slow

Postby isaaclw » Thu Nov 08, 2012 6:43 pm

The key that I exchange with other people contains the IP address, and when they add my key I would expect to get a connection almost immediatly (since they know my IP and port).

Why does it take so long for their connection to show up? Is there something that I need to adjust with my firewall so that they can connect faster? I already have port forwarding set up.

It is fast when one of the two peers at least has a forwarded port.

If the two peers are NATed and possibily in a tricky firewalled situation, connecting needs using the DHT to sync UDP connexions. That takes a little time (some minutes) the first time you do it.

So in summary: forward your RS port on your internet box => instant connexion to your new friends.

Oh, my bad. I had that, but my router was configured to for both "TCP" and "UDP".
I'm getting a faster response (from netcat/telnet) now that I have it configured for just TCP.

I should have tried those programs first.

Thanks
